STYLE IS PRECISE
After graduating from Ryerson University's Fashion Design program, I launched a women's wear line with a focus on modern, soft-tailored separates.
Disturbed and disillusioned by "fast fashion", my goal was to design classic, modern clothing that women could wear for years. Each collection was designed with the customer in mind: fabrics are durable, washable and wrinkle-resistant; extra fabric is left in the seams, allowing for alterations over time; and each collection is designed so pieces can be mixed and matched to create a variety of different looks.
COLOUR & CONCEPT
The Spring/Summer 2014 collection, "Style is Precise", was inspired by simple shapes, bold colour, and the juxtaposition of natural and architectural forms.
DESIGN & ILLUSTRATION
After identifying the design direction and choosing fabric, I designed hundreds of potential pieces for the collection. In a capsule collection of only 20 styles, it was important to balance variety and cohesiveness. The pieces in the collection were narrowed down to offer an assortment of pant fits, skirt and sleeve lengths and outfit options. Each style is available in different colours and a full range of sizes.
Patterns & Prototypes
I drew sketches, drafted patterns, and created specifications for each garment. I cut and sewed "muslins" (or prototypes), fitting, adjusting, and re-cutting until the drape and fit of every garment was right.
COLLECTION, SPRING 2014
The final collection samples were cut and sewn by expert sample sewer Ramesh Surti. Photography for the campaign and look book was shot by Joseph Saraceno of Judy Inc., with creative direction by Pheinixx Paul of Pencil, styling by Nada Shepherd, and hair and make-up by Dee Daly of Judy Inc. All clothing modelled by Danielle Wesierski.
World Mastercard FASHION WEEK, PRESS & BUYERS BREAKFAST
In the fall of 2013 I was invited to show the Spring/Summer 2014 collection at the Toronto Fashion Incubator's Press & Buyers Breakfast during World MasterCard Fashion Week, alongside up-and-coming designers from across Canada.
